India beat the West Indies in their first One Day International (ODI) cricket match by eight wickets at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill made centuries as India achieved the target of 296 runs set by the West Indies with 50 balls to spare.

West Indies Post 295 Runs
The West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first. The visitors scored 295/7 in 50 overs, with Justin Greaves making 101 runs and John Campbell adding 62.
India's top bowler for the match was Kuldeep Yadav, who bagged four wickets, while Prasidh Krishna and Nitish Kumar Reddy took two and one wicket, respectively. Kuldeep was subsequently awarded the Player of the Match title. Although the West Indies had put up a competitive scorecard, India's strong batting line-up ensured that their target was manageable in the second innings.
Kohli and Gill Dominate the Chase
India got off to a good start in their chase and managed to cross the target mark within 41.4 overs for a score of 300/2. One of the key players for India was Shubman Gill, who scored 110 runs.
Kohli went on to deliver the best performance in the game. The former captain of India did not get out at all and made an unbeaten score of 139 runs in just 88 balls. He also adopted a positive style of batting.

In the course of playing that century, Kohli became the second player in history, after Sachin Tendulkar, to score 15,000 runs in ODI cricket. Also, this was his 55th century in ODI cricket.
India Takes 1-0 Lead
The eight-wicket win has allowed India to gain an advantage of 1-0 in the ODI series of three games. The next ODI will be played in Guwahati on September 30, while the third game will be played on October 3 in New Chandigarh.
A five-match T20I series starting on October 6 will come after that. The match result will certainly favor India in the upcoming series, but the West Indies will try to bounce back in the second ODI match.
