What Is the IDFC FIRST Bank ₹504 Crore Fraud Case?
The IDFC FIRST Bank fraud case is related to the alleged misappropriation of around ₹504 crore of the money of eight government departments of the state of Haryana. As per the report of the CBI, money meant to be kept in bank accounts and fixed deposits was allegedly diverted via selected branches of IDFC FIRST Bank and AU Small Finance Bank.
It is alleged that the transactions made use of fake documents on fixed deposits, unauthorized transfers of funds, and third-party bank accounts. The funds were claimed to have been transferred through various accounts and were then converted into cash form.
This case resulted from finding some irregularities in the government's accounts. The investigations of the state vigilance agencies preceded the takeover of the case by the CBI.
Latest CBI Investigation and Mohit Goyal's Arrest
An important step in the IDFC First Bank fraud case happened on October 14, as the CBI has now arrested businessman Mohit Goyal regarding the scam of ₹2 crore in cash.
As per news reported by The Indian Express, it is alleged that Goyal arranged and transferred the money through a hawala route to the son of suspended Haryana IAS officer R K Singh in January 2026.
The CBI is also looking into the transactions that took place between Goyal's firms as well as firms that are said to be connected to the ex-bank branch manager, Ribhav Rishi. The investigators are trying to determine the source of the money, find out any other individuals that were involved, and track down the proceeds of crime.
CBI Chargesheet Names Haryana IAS Officers
In September 2026, the CBI charged five IAS officers of Haryana and 14 other people in relation to the ₹504 crore money diversion case. It has been claimed by the CBI that some public servants conspired with the bank officials and other individuals for the purpose of transferring the money.
The charge sheet is alleged to contain charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery, bribery, and criminal breach of trust. The CBI has also sought sanction for prosecution of five serving and one retired IAS officers, as per a report published by The Indian Express on October 8.
How Were Government Funds Allegedly Diverted?
According to the CBI, the alleged scam consisted of moving public funds into certain bank branches and then channeling the money into third-party accounts via irregular transactions. The investigators are investigating whether false banking documents and fixed deposit documents were used for the cover-up.
The Haryana government departments and organizations as stated in the reports are the Development and Panchayat Department, municipalities, Haryana School Shiksha Pariyojna Parishad, Haryana Labour Welfare Board, Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board, Haryana State Pollution Control Board, and Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited.
In addition, as of March 2026, an Enforcement Directorate report noted that there were about ₹597 crore worth of cases of corruption involving public money associated with the Haryana Government, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, and other government accounts. The above figure relates to more accounts and must not be confused with the figure of ₹504 crore concerning the Haryana case.
