A heavy rain alert has been issued by the IMD for some Indian regions due to the expectation of rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and winds in different regions of India from October 6 to October 11. The south is expected to get the most rain, while thunderstorms and winds will affect the north and east of India.
Heavy Rain Alert for Southern States
According to the latest IMD forecast, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and South Interior Karnataka are among the areas under a heavy rainfall warning.
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may receive isolated heavy rainfall on October 6. Kerala and Mahe are also likely to experience heavy rain on October 6, with another possibility of heavy rainfall on October 9 and 10.
South Interior Karnataka is also expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall on October 6. The IMD has further warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in parts of southern India during the coming days.
Kerala and Mahe, along with Lakshadweep, are expected to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall between October 6 and 11. Coastal Karnataka may also experience widespread rainfall on October 6.
Thunderstorm and Strong Wind Warning
The weather conditions are not limited to heavy rain. IMD has also forecast thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across several states.
In Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of around 40–50 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 60 kmph, are expected on October 6 and 7. Similar conditions are also forecast in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir.
West Uttar Pradesh may also experience thunderstorms and lightning from October 6 to 9, while East Uttar Pradesh may see similar conditions from October 6 to 8.
Rain Forecast Across Other Parts of India
The Heavy Rain Alert is part of a broader weather system affecting multiple regions. Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh are likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from October 6 to 10. Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha may also experience rain and thunderstorms during the week.
In eastern India, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Odisha during different periods between October 6 and 9.
Northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, may also receive rainfall during the forecast period.
What About Delhi-NCR?
Delhi-NCR is also expected to see changing weather conditions. The IMD forecast indicates isolated to scattered rainfall over Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh from October 6 to 11.
Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are particularly expected on October 6 and 7. People travelling during this period should remain alert, especially during thunderstorms and strong winds.
The weather conditions can have an impact on everyday movement and other outdoor activities in parts of North India. In case of thunderstorms, people should be cautious in open spaces and not expose themselves to lightning and high winds. Travelers should also be cautious regarding the change in weather, especially in the afternoon and evening.
Weather Conditions to Continue Until October 11
The latest forecast indicates that rainfall and thunderstorms will continue across different parts of India through October 11. However, the intensity and timing will vary from one region to another.
Southern states remain the main focus of the Heavy Rain Alert, while northern, eastern, and central regions are expected to experience a combination of rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. People in areas under weather warnings should follow local administration and IMD advisories and take precautions during heavy rain, lightning, and strong winds.
IMD has recommended that people stay updated about local weather alerts since conditions can vary during the forecasting period. In case of heavy rains, there can be waterlogging temporarily in some places. Thunderstorms and strong winds may also affect normal operations. People residing in the affected areas must heed the local advisories.
